The centerpiece of the OTG 2013/14 season will be the much anticipated world premiere performance of OTG’s first full opera commission, Bennu’s Birds, with story and music by Rory Merritt Stitt. Performances Feb 22 to March 1 at JDHS Auditorium.

Other not to be missed events will include our annual Amalga Chamber Orchestra concert the weekend before Thanksgiving. The wonderfully diverse program will feature a newly commissioned work for electric cello and orchestra by Tyree Pini, the heart-stoppingly beautiful “The Lark Ascending” of Ralph Vaughan Williams, performed by Lisa Ibias, and a fantastic symphony by a French contemporary of Beethoven, Étienne Nicolas Méhul. It is a shame that he is not better known, but Beethoven cast a very long shadow that reached all the way to France!

An OTG first will happen in November as well – I will be giving a conducting masterclass over two days – November 2 and 9. Nearly all details are still being worked out, so stay tuned for more on this!

Previously seen in OTG’s Arctic Magic Flute and JLO’s Beauty and the Beast, Mark Kratz will give a masterclass on September 15. Anyone with so much as a fascination with singing should attend!

And, of course our annual Opera Spotlight will bring the local established and rising talent of Juneau to you, in a very relaxed atmosphere, June 1.

We do have a few more events whose details are not totally worked out yet, so stay tuned for more from us!

Operatically yours,
William Todd Hunt
