Seussical the Musical is underway and almost ready for launch! This has been a first time collaborative effort between Theater at Latitude 58 and Opera to Go. It has been a very fun experience working with a combined cast of both children and adults. The show is a high energy musical experience chock full of characters and premises from the beloved classic works of Dr. Seuss. And believe me when I say it is musical! It has over 25 musical numbers, featuring not only singing but dancing as well! That is a lot for anyone to learn, let alone a group of mostly youth! But they are a fearless and talented bunch, and have done a remarkable job! I am very excited to share with the community the fruits of their hard work!
Opera to Go has been working with Theater at Latitude 58 to teach this music to a cast of 50 kids and adults. It has been pretty amazing to work with the cast on a rather difficult piece of music, and next rehearsal see them perform it not only well, but while doing their brand new, fancy choreography. They are fast learners and remarkably nimble! Both the dancing and the singing is pretty fast paced in this show! Breath support is a phrase they’ve heard a lot of in this experience, and they have lungs of steel by now.
Opera to Go has also been working on providing an orchestra for the show, as well, to be conducted by the talented Amy Bibb. We are heading into tech week and dress rehearsal week, now, so we get to practice with the orchestra for the first time this week. That will be very exciting. The kids have already been practicing with Amy and pianist Doug Smith, so I think they are well prepared.
The show will perform at Thunder Mountain High School. Show times are 7:00pm on the 22nd and 23rdof November, with 2:00pm matinees on the 23rd and 24th. Tickets are for sale at Hearthside Books or at the door. I hope to see you there!
